AN entertaining pre-season friendly between Ynysgerwn FC and Ammanford AFC was played out on the 3G pitch at the Llandarcy Academy of Sport on Friday (Jul 19).
It took Ammanford a good half hour to settle and score the opening goal of this game.
Ammanford forward Bruno Forkouh was upended in the penalty area and midfielder Mathew Fisher duly converted the spot kick.
Ynysgerwyn held a tight defence up to this point with ex Ammanford player Rhys Owen marshalling his fellow defenders.
Craig Morris, the Ammanford stopper, also had to be on his toes in the early stages to keep out some close range efforts.
Ammanford’s Ricky Martin was showing his pace and almost added to his team’s goal tally.
It took a scrambled goal line clearance by the Ynysgerwyn keeper to prevent the ball creeping over his goal line.
Ynysgerwyn did fight back and had a penalty kick awarded to them. The resultant spot kick rebounded off the post and away to safety.
Minutes later a through ball played up to Ammanford striker Craig Frater bounced over the head of centre half Rhys Owen and the Ynysgerwyn defender could only watch on as Frater slotted the ball passed the keeper to double Ammanford’s score.
The Second half produced some half chances for Ammanford but a resolute Ynysgerwyn defence held firm.
Ammanford’s defence also coped with any threats from Ynysgerwyn and the second half was more of a stalemate.
Ammanford move on to their next pre season friendly away to Pontardawe on Tuesday (Jul 23) and will be pleased with their latest performance.
