Ammanford secured their first home league win of the season with a confident 4-1 victory against Penrhiwceiber Rangers.

Lewis Reed’s brace, coupled with goals from Adam Morgan and Callum Thomas, earned Town their first three points in Carmarthenshire of the 2024/25 season.

Reed’s third goal of the season rewarded a positive start for Town. Last season’s top scorer had already come close with a long-range free kick before finding the back of the net. Callum Thomas’ dinked ball caught out the defence, allowing Reed to lift the ball over Jacob Ireland in the visiting goal.

Ammanford played with much more confidence than in recent weeks, with Morgan and Reed again going close with a pair of chances.

However, despite the positive start, the league’s basement side equalised midway through the first half.

Some excellent play down the right wing gave Brandon Davies the simple task of hitting the ball home from close range.

Ammanford rallied and dominated proceedings, but despite Morgan and Thomas going close, they went into the break level.

In the early moments of the second half, both sides traded glorious opportunities apiece. First, Morgan for the home side shot inches wide from a low cross by debutant Luke Sylvester. At the other end, Jack Thomas pounced on a quickly taken free kick but could only curl his effort wide.

Ammanford made Rangers pay for their missed chance seconds later as Morgan was finally rewarded for his efforts. Reed fed the former Swansea University striker, who bore down on goal and fired home to restore the Black and Whites’ advantage.

Minutes later, things got even better for the hosts. Josh Hutchings cleared the ball to the left wing where Thomas picked it up. The midfielder broke down the flank, danced past two defenders, and neatly finished to give Wyn Thomas’ men a two-goal cushion.

Town were on top and enjoying large spells of possession. They went close to adding a fourth with Morgan Clarke’s thunderous effort cannoning off the bar, Reed’s effort forcing Ireland into a strong save, and Harrison Lewis’ acrobatic attempt going narrowly over.

With ten minutes to go, Town finally achieved a three-goal lead as Reed grabbed his second of the match. Impressive substitute Matthew Fisher played in Reed, who made no mistake, firing the ball low into the bottom corner.

Deep into stoppage time, there was nearly a fifth goal as the referee awarded the home side a penalty. New signing Hanibal Sallami stepped up, but agonisingly, his penalty bounced off the crossbar and out to safety.
