Lewis Reed bagged four goals as Ammanford secured a superb 6-2 victory against Cwmbran Celtic.
Llywelyn James and Matthew Fisher scored the other two goals of the contest as Ammanford made it four home wins in a row in the JD Cymru South.
There was a painful irony in the blistering pace of the opening stages of the game, given the delay of the first kick due to traffic problems on the M4.
The visitors took the lead after just three minutes. A defensive mix-up allowed Thomas Meechan the simple task of rolling the ball into the empty net.
However, in previous matches this season where Ammanford had fallen behind and taken time to respond, the Black and Whites were level just three minutes later. Adam John’s marauding run down the wing found Reed unmarked in the penalty area. The marksman’s first-time effort nestled in the bottom corner, restoring parity.
It was nearly a quick turnaround for Town as Callum Thomas came within a whisker of maintaining his impressive scoring form. After exchanging passes on the edge of the area, his strike was well stopped, and the rebound was cleared off the line.
Ammanford completed the turnaround just before the half-hour mark as Reed notched his second. A free kick on the edge of the area was rifled into the bottom corner, sparking scenes of jubilation on and off the pitch.
With seconds to go before the break, Reed completed his hat trick. Thomas’ shot was spilled by visiting keeper Iwan Hooper, allowing the striker to round off his trio of goals.
After the frantic pace of the opening minutes of the first stanza, the second half began at a much more sedate tempo, with both midfields engaging in a series of niggly and meaty challenges.
Although Celtic enjoyed the majority of possession and territory, it wasn’t until twenty minutes before full time that the first meaningful chance of the half arrived, and it fell to the home side.
Rhys Davies was fouled inside the area, granting Reed the opportunity to score his fourth of the night from the penalty spot. He took the chance well, sending the keeper the wrong way.
Meechan created two good opportunities for the visitors, curling a free kick over the bar and firing straight at Luke Martin after working himself into space at the far post.
With ten minutes remaining, Wyn Thomas made a triple substitution, and two of those substitutes combined brilliantly for Town’s fifth goal of the evening.
Adam Orme’s pass found Matthew Fisher down the right flank. The midfielder located youngster Llywelyn James unmarked inside the area, and the former Newcastle Emlyn player coolly slotted the ball home.
The scoring wasn’t finished there, as Town hit six for the first time since February. Ellis Williams’ brilliant run found Fisher on the edge of the area. Capping his return from injury in the best way possible, he bent a shot into the far corner of the net.
Sam Powell’s late free kick for the Yellows added a gloss to the scoreline for the visitors; however, Town were not to be denied a fantastic victory on home soil, rounding off an excellent week for the club.
