Match Report: Ammanford AFC 0-2 Caerau Ely

Ammanford’s five-match unbeaten home run was brought to an end as Caerau Ely claimed a 2-0 victory in Carmarthenshire.

Two second-half goals were enough for the energetic and well-drilled Young Guns to secure the win on a night when the club marked Remembrance Day and honoured the memory of long-time supporter and advocate, Lucille Rees.

Wyn Thomas made three changes to the side that suffered defeat at Pontypridd, with Adam Orme, Harrison Lewis, and Nich Arnold coming into the starting XI. It was Arnold who had the best chance early on, when a corner was only partially cleared to the edge of the box. He fired a shot, but visiting goalkeeper Exauce Dimonekene made a strong save.

In a scrappy first half with few clear-cut chances, it was the Young Guns who had the better of the attacking play. Brandon Griffiths came close with a free-kick that narrowly missed the crossbar, before Luke Martin was forced to make a brilliant save from point-blank range to keep the scores level as the teams went into the break.

The second half began in much the same vein, with opportunities at a premium, but it was the visitors who took the lead with their first chance of the second period. A cross from the left was met by Oliver Redhead, who headed the ball in at the far post.

The introduction of Matthew Fisher and Adam Morgan injected much-needed energy into the Town attack, with Fisher particularly influential in midfield. Despite a noticeable improvement after falling behind, Ammanford could only muster a scrappy goalmouth scramble, which ended with Dimonekene collecting the ball gratefully.

With the game drawing to a close, Caerau Ely sealed the victory with a second goal. Jack Turner played a perfectly weighted pass to Liam Bishop, who broke through the Ammanford defence and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to secure a well-deserved three points for the away side.
