Alex Giardelli’s injury time leveller secured Ammanford their second consecutive league draw away at Trethomas Bluebirds.
Having trailed to a Jonathan Hood goal for most of the contest, the former Llanelli Town’s first strike for his new charges ensured Town returned from a wet Ystrad Mynach with a deserved and valuable point.
Despite the driving wind and rain from Storm Amy lambasting the sodden CCB Centre of Excellence, Ammanford started brightly and created a pair of good chances through attacking duo Macsen Llewelyn and Gavin Jones, both of which were deflected to safety.
Midway through the opening period, the Bluebirds took the lead with their first meaningful chance. A cross from the left flank deceived everyone, giving Hood a simple tap in from close range.
Ammanford’s woes intensified before the break as Luke Sylvester was forced off after a strong challenge rendered him unable to continue.
Only ten minutes after the interval, Town had more injury misery as Rhys Davies had to be substituted and replaced by Dan John.
The Bluebirds felt aggrieved shortly afterwards when they felt they were denied a penalty after a challenge from Babucar Sauane.
Around the halfway point of the second half, the game turned niggly with a flurry of yellow cards for both sides, accumulating in the eventual dismissal of Alex Newman-Jones for the hosts.
The man advantage helped Town who sent on Giardelli to try and get them back in the game. They enjoyed the bulk of the territory and possession but encountered a stubborn and well drilled resistance.
Skipper Adam Orme went close twice from distance and Davies dragged a shot wide of the post after showing some excellent trickery in midfield.
Ammanford’s best chance fell to Gavin Jones. With ten minutes to play, he broke down the left wing, cut inside and forced Suleimane Susso into a tremendous save at close range.
With only five minutes of additional time added, the clock was against the visitors. But just like last week against Pontypridd United, Wyn Thomas’ men left it late to get their rewards for their endeavours.
The left hand side was again the source of the danger as Owain Davies’ whipped cross was met at the far post by Giardelli who stabbed the ball home from the tightest of angles to earn a share of the spoils for Ammanford.
