Ammanford produced a dazzling display of attacking football to score six goals and secure three points against  struggling Afan Lido.

Lido came into the match fresh off an excellent 3-2 victory against Caerau Ely but missing ex Ammanford forward Lewis Reed through injury.

Ammanford meanwhile were looking to extend their unbeaten record at home.

The game started in a frantic fashion with both teams looking to get the better of each other’s defensive line.

It was Ammanford however who took the lead when Babucar Sauane’s cross/shot found the far corner of the net against his former team.

Ammanford continued on the front foot and after 15 minutes Adam John saw his low shot saved by the legs of Lido keeper Ben Haines.

Adam John was then put through on goal eight minutes later but couldn’t get the ball from under his feet and the chance was gone.

Lido were competitive at this stage and centre forward Liam Griffiths in particular was causing issues in the Ammanford defence with his physicality.

In the 34th minute a good Lido move culminated in a shot straight at keeper Luke Martin whose handling as usual was exemplary in the conditions.

Ammanford extended their lead in the 36th minute when forward Dan John stooped to plant a firm header from a left hand cross  past the despairing dive of Haines.

Shortly after that Haines denied Ammanford with a double save from Dan John and Callum Thomas.

Lido were still a threat and shortly before half time Griffiths shot narrowly wide of the Ammanford goal.

Ammanford took to the field for the second half no doubt wary not to let the visitors back into the contest but were quick to take almost complete control of the next forty five minutes with a dazzling display of attacking football.

Three minutes into the second half a brilliant through ball from Baba released Dan John who calmly rounded Haines to jubilantly slot home his second of the game.

In the 57th minute Adam John shot narrowly wide when put through and three minutes later Baba nearly repeated his first half goal when Haines clutched his cross on the line.

In the 70th minute Adam John got the goal that his performance deserved when Lido failed to clear their ranks and Dan John found his namesake who swept the ball home.

Dan John capped off a fantastic personal display four minutes later when he seized on a through ball and slotted the ball past Haines to complete his hat trick and spark jubilant scenes amongst the home support.

It was left to substitute Gavin Jones to put the icing on the cake with arguably the best goal of the game when, seven minutes from time he took the ball towards goal and then curled an exquisite shot past Haines into the top corner of the goal to put Ammanford six goals up.

Ammanford surged forward hungry for more goals but were unable to add to their tally and the final whistle brought the curtain down on an excellent team performance and extended their unbeaten record at home this season.
