Alex Giardelli’s dramatic last-gasp 95th-minute winner ensured Ammanford claimed the spoils in the battle of Carmarthenshire and opened up a four-point gap to fourth place.
With the contest heading towards a stalemate, Gavin Jones’ cross found Giardelli, who sparked scenes of delirium among the legion of Town supporters that had made the short trip down the A48.
It was no more than the visitors deserved on an afternoon in which they fashioned numerous opportunities but, as has so often been the case, were repeatedly denied by an inspired Lee Idzi in the home goal.
Playing their first fixture in almost a month, Ammanford began brightly and should have taken the lead within the opening quarter of an hour. Luke Sylvester reached the byline and pulled the ball back for Callum Thomas, but the young forward fired over from close range.
For the Old Gold, Tobias Jones and Tom Dyson each threatened before Idzi was forced into a strong save to deny Owain Davies’ free-kick from the edge of the penalty area.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Town continuing to create promising openings. Dan John’s cut-back prompted another outstanding stop from Idzi, this time to repel Adam John’s effort, before Sylvester sent the rebound wide.
Matt Delaney then went close with a header that drifted just over the bar, while Idzi once again proved a source of frustration for Ammanford, brilliantly denying Dan John his eighth goal of the campaign after the striker had been slipped through on goal inside the box.
Despite the visitors enjoying the vast majority of clear-cut chances, the hosts squandered a golden opportunity four minutes from time. A swift counter-attack ended with Tobias Jones firing inches wide of the far post.
Wyn Thomas introduced Giardelli, Matthew Fisher and Gavin Jones late on, but the match appeared destined to finish level after Idzi superbly blocked Delaney’s effort with his feet a minute into stoppage time.
However, there was still time for late drama as Jones and Giardelli, both of whom had started the season with the Old Gold, combined for the latter to nod home at the far post.
The goal brought an end to the hosts’ 17-match unbeaten home run and extended Ammanford’s own undefeated streak to nine games.
