Ammanford brought an end to their three‑match winless spell with a hard‑earned 2–1 triumph over promotion rivals Aberystwyth Town.
Goals from Dan John and Matt Delaney, one in each half, secured the points for the hosts, who had been pegged back on the cusp of the interval by Jonathan Evans’ vicious finish.
Despite Friday’s postponed fixture against Cambrian, there was little sign of rustiness as the Black and Whites flew out of the blocks. Delaney tested the visiting goalkeeper from range before Gavin Jones saw his effort cleared off the line.
Town eventually made their early pressure count after 11 minutes. Owain Davies’ corner was helped on by Jones and dropped perfectly for Dan John, who guided a neat header into the net from close quarters.
Moments later, Ammanford carved out another excellent opening which almost doubled their advantage. Strong work down the left created space for Jones, whose attempt forced his namesake La’trel in the away goal into an excellent stop.
The home side continued to fashion opportunities but couldn’t add to their tally, with a series of blocks and hopeful attempts from John, Delaney and Jones failing to find a way through.
Aberystwyth, arriving on the back of a six‑game unbeaten stretch including five wins, enjoyed lengthy spells of possession but rarely threatened. A Piers Juliff free‑kick, drifting harmlessly over, was the closest they came to troubling Luke Martin.
It was therefore somewhat unexpected when the Seasiders levelled shortly before half time. Zach Hartley broke free down the left and whipped in a cross that found Evans, whose decisive strike from inside the box dragged his side back into the contest.
The visitors made a bright start to the second period as Evans volleyed over early on.
As the half unfolded, Ammanford gradually regained control, and Jones was called upon to parry away a firm effort from John around the midpoint of the half.
Seconds later came the game’s defining moment. A reckless challenge in the area earned Town a penalty, handing Delaney the responsibility from the spot. He made no mistake, hammering his effort high into the net to restore the advantage.
Evans nearly delivered an immediate reply, his glancing header drifting narrowly wide.
Aberystwyth pressed for a second equaliser with plenty of determination, but their advances left gaps for Ammanford to exploit on the break. Substitute Macsen Llewelyn almost capitalised late on, while Adam John forced another strong stop from Jones, yet the hosts stood firm to claim a valuable victory and move back into the top three.
