Ammanford AFC booked their place in Round 3 of the JD Welsh Cup with a 3-1 win against a competitive Ton Pentre team.
The game came to life in the 20th minute when Ammanford’s Lee Trundle played in his overlapping right back Matthew Jones into space and from close range his shot beat Ton’s Goalkeeper Niall Reed to open the scoring 1-0.
However the home team’s lead didn’t last long, just two minutes later the Bulldogs levelled when striker Jonathan Welsh scored.
As half time approached it was Ammanford who regained the lead when Trundle played in Gavin Jones who hit a low hard shot which goalkeeper Reed got a hand to but not enough to stop the ball from nestling into the corner of his net.
It was the perfect way to end the first half for the home team.
The Supporters were glad of the half time hot refreshments due to the extremely cold and wet conditions.
The second half commenced with Ammanford on the front foot.
Ammanford’s midfielders Brett Enoch, Ben Soal and Mathew Fisher were starting to gain more influence in the game and Trundle’s ball control and clever lay offs were creating good chances for his fellow forwards Gavin Jones and Bruno Forkuoh.
Ton’s keeper was keeping his team in the contest with some fine saves.
Ammanford’s pressure finally paid off when Trundle gathered the loose ball and powered the ball into the back of the net.
The Bulldogs did have their moments in the second half and it took some fine defending from Ammanford’s centre back Euros Griffiths to thwart what seemed a certain goal.
Ammanford continued to press their visitors but could not add to their goal tally.
As the final whistle blew it was Ammanford who progressed in the cup but credit to The Bulldogs who put up a creditable display.
