Ammanford AFC appoints Wyn Thomas

Ammanford AFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Wyn Thomas as First Team Manager.

Thomas, who was already part of the management team for Town, steps up into the managerial hot seat following the resignation of Gruff Harrison last week.

During his time at Ammanford, Thomas helped steer the club to a superb 3rd place finish as part of the management team and, on the field, scored an incredible late equaliser away at Trefelin.

Thomas is a man who needs no introduction in Welsh footballing circles after a highly distinguished career. After starting out at Aberystwyth Town for whom he had two separate spells, he went on to play for Carmarthen Town, Haverfordwest County, Llanelli and Swansea University before arriving in SA18 last summer.

As a player, Thomas has won the top flight and Welsh Cup whilst representing Llanelli and is an inductee into the Welsh Premier League Hall of Fame. Until last season, when he was overtaken by his former teammate Chris Venables, Thomas held the record for the most appearances in the JD Cymru Premier since its inception back in 1992.

As a coach, he has experience in the dugout with his maiden club Aberystwyth Town, helping them qualify for the Europa League in 2014 before moving to Swansea University where he helped guide the students to the JD Cymru South title in 2020.

“I’m humbled, honoured and grateful to have been given this opportunity to manage a great club. I’m looking forward to seeing how high we can push the club and continue the fantastic legacy that Gruff Harrison developed during his time in charge,” Thomas said of his appointment.

Chairman Rob Thomas stated, “I’m very pleased to be able to appoint someone of the calibre of Wyn to the managerial position. Losing a manager is never easy, but to appoint someone who’ll be able to maintain the stability and consistency within the playing squad is fantastic. I send my heartfelt congratulations to Wyn and look forward to working alongside him.”

Thomas will be joined in the dugout by coaches Sean Cresser and Jack Long, maintaining the same setup that guided Town to their first victory of the season away at Baglan Dragons on Sunday.

His first game in charge will come on Friday night when one of his old clubs, Carmarthen Town, visits the Recreation Ground.

Croeso mawr i ti Wyn!
