Ammanford secured only their third ever victory against top flight opposition since the inception of the Cymru Premier League with a 1-0 win against constant upper tier opposition Aberystwyth Town.
Callum Thomas’ early goal was enough to separate the sides as the Black and Whites secured progression to the third round of the JD Welsh Cup.
After Park Avenue erupted into rapturous applause to commemorate the lives of John Sambrook and Carwyn Daniel, Town made the perfect start and found themselves ahead with less than ten minutes on the clock. A short freekick was played down the left flank before it was laid on a plate for Callum Thomas on the edge of the area. The attacking midfielder shot low into the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead.
Despite going behind early, the Seasiders entered the game full of confidence and enjoyed the ball for the remainder of the half. Their best opportunities came through Rhys Davies and Chris Azimale but Luke Martin was alert to all the danger and Ammanford went in ahead at the break.
The hosts had the better of the opening twenty minutes of the second half but could not muster clear chances against a well marshalled new look defence of Callum Jones and Nich Arnold.
In fact, it took over thirty minutes of play in the second stanza for either side to create a chance of note. Rico Patterson attempted to replicate his teammate Niall Flint in scoring a long range lob however, on this occasion, Martin was alert to stop the danger.
Whilst the hosts still provided a threat, Ammanford went close as Arnold headed just wide of the target from a corner.
As the game flowed towards its conclusion, Aber pushed for an equaliser, sending their goalkeeper forward for set pieces but aside from a Rico Patterson volley that landed just wide, Wyn Thomas’ men held on and secured passage into the third round of the JD Welsh Cup.

Wnaeth Rhydaman sicrhau dim ond ei drydedd fuddugoliaeth yn erbyn tîm o’r uwch gynghrair mewn 30 mlynedd wrth iddynt guro CPD Aberystwyth ar Goedlan y Parc.
Roedd gôl gynnar Callum Thomas yn ddigon i sicrhau bod enw Rhydaman yn yr het am y rownd nesaf o Gwpan Cymru JD.
Ar ôl i bob cornel o’r stadiwm glapio i gofio am fywydau John Sambrook a Carwyn Daniel, dechreuodd Rhydaman yn y ffordd orau posib. Cafodd cic rhydd ei tharo lawr yr asgell chwith i Ellis Williams. Pasiodd e’r bêl i Thomas ar ymyl y cwrt, a chafodd y chwaraewr canol cae orffen yn dda i’r gornel isaf.
Er i Rhydaman fynd ar y blaen, roedd y tîm adref yn mwynhau llawer o’r bêl. Er hyn, roedd cyfleon yn anodd i greu i’r Gwyrdd a Duon. Yr agosaf a aethant oedd trwy Rhys Davies a Chris Azimale, ond roedd Luke Martin yn gallu delio gyda phopeth a ddaeth tuag ato, a daeth Rhydaman i mewn i’r ystafelloedd newid ar y blaen.
Dechreuodd Aber yr ail hanner yn dda, ond fel yn yr hanner cyntaf, roedden nhw’n cael amser anodd yn torri amddiffyn Rhydaman i lawr oherwydd perfformiadau gwych gan Nich Arnold a Callum Jones yng nghanol y cefn.
Cymerodd tan ugain munud cyn y diwedd am gyfle cyntaf yr hanner i Aber. Ceisiodd Alex Darlington godi’r bêl dros ben Martin, ond syrthiodd y bêl yn garedig i’r du a gwynion a fyddai bron wedi mynd dwy gôl ar y blaen, ond peniodd Arnold heibio’r postyn.
Wrth i’r gêm ddod i ben, anfodd tîm Dave Taylor ei golgeidwad i geisio unioni’r sgor yn hwyr. Saethodd Rico Patterson heibio’r postyn, a dechreuodd dathliadau tîm Wyn Thomas a’i gefnogwyr ffyddlon tu ôl i’r gôl.
