Ammanford’s unbeaten start to the 2025/26 season came to an end courtesy of Trefelin BGC.
A pair of set piece goals in either half was enough to secure the hosts the three points which see them leapfrog Town in the process.
Callum Thomas came back into the lineup for Town and it was the midfielder who had the first chance of the game. Some clever play through the middle set last season’s young player of the season through on goal. However, a brilliant last ditch tackle prevented Thomas from getting his opportunity at goal.
Following the early scare, the hosts grew into the game and proceeded to enjoy the bulk of the ball and the chances with Jasper Jones’ effort which was held by Luke Martin being the headline act of the period.
Matt Delaney and Adam John went close from distance before Martin was on hand to maintain the deadlock, producing a stunning one handed save from a powerful drive.
But just minutes later, there was little he could do about Jordan Davies’ deep corner which deceived everyone and nestled into the bottom corner of the net.
The home side deserved their lead but the goal reinvigorated Town who finished the half on the ascendency. Strong penalty appeals were waved away but Town went in behind.
Wyn Thomas’ men made a disastrous start to the second stanza as Trefelin doubled their lead just three minutes into the period. A corner was delivered into the head of Luke Bowen who continued his impressive goal scoring run against Town, powering his header into the top corner.
Ammanford made a quarter of changes and the change of personnel made a difference. Adam John saw a freekick deflected onto the post before Alex Giardelli saw his freekick curl narrowly wide of the post.
Bowen nearly put the game beyond doubt just after the hour mark but a combination of Martin and Babucar Sauane somehow hooked his strike off the line.
Substitute Matthew Fisher went close in the dying embers, seeing his goal bound shot blocked away, but despite plenty of endeavour and no shortage of grit, Town could not breach the home defence, condemning Ammanford to their first loss of the season.
