Ammanford stretched their unbeaten run to ten matches with a hard fought 2–0 victory over Ynyshir Albions at the Recreation Ground.
Gavin Jones and Dan John struck in either half as Town marked the start of 2026 with a deserved three points.
In contrast to the blazing sunshine that accompanied the reverse fixture in August, Saturday’s match was almost a casualty of heavy snowfall and freezing conditions. A pitch inspection at 11:15am, following outstanding work from Keith Harrison and a group of volunteers, ensured the fixture went ahead.
Playing at home for the first time in nearly two months, Ammanford began brightly, with Matt Delaney and Owain Davies both involved early on. Clear openings were limited, however, and it was the visitors who threatened first.
Luke Martin was forced into action, pushing a header around the post before reacting sharply to deny Rhys Morgan from close range.
Despite Ynyshir’s early pressure, the breakthrough came at the other end on the half-hour. Dan John, showing persistence down the right, reached the by-line and clipped a measured cross into the six-yard box, where Gavin Jones applied the finish from point-blank range.
The goal shifted the momentum, with Matthew Fisher and Chris Bell both testing the Albions defence before the interval.
Ynyshir enjoyed the majority of the ball in the opening exchanges of the second half however, it was Wyn Thomas’ side who proved more clinical.
Dan John doubled the advantage after forcing an error at the back, rounding Harry Webber before calmly placing the ball into the net.
Following the goal, the home side asserted their authority. Jones sent a curling effort narrowly wide, while substitute Adam John struck the post with a diving header at the far post.
Alex Giardelli came close to adding a third, his fierce free-kick drawing a strong save from Webber, who was again called upon to deny both Giardelli and Dan John as the pressure mounted.
Morgan Clarke nearly completed the scoring in the closing moments, latching onto a slick move down the right, but his effort drifted wide.
However, the missed chance didn’t affect the result as Town entered the New Year with the best possible result as the charge towards the promotion places continued.
