MATCH REPORT: Pontypridd Town 1-2 Ammanford AFC

They say that winning becomes a habit and Gruff Harrison’s Ammanford Team are enjoying a winning streak at present  as they extend their consecutive unbeaten run to five games.
On a rain sodden pitch at Aberaman Park, Aberdare, the Ammanford Players were all smiles as they headed back up the steps at full time to the shelter of their dressing room.
Ammanford AFC played in their emerald green away kit and were cheered on by their hardy supporters sat high in the stand above the pitch.
The first half was a stalemate, after some fine defending kept Ammanford in the game after a whole host of Pontypridd chances went wide of the mark.
For Pontypridd their evergreen striker Luke Gullick had half chances but couldn’t convert, which turned out to be crucial come the final whistle.
The second half came to life in the 53rd minute when Ammanford’s Gavin Jones played in team mate striker  Craig Frater who held off his marker and slotted the ball into the back of the Ponty net, holding off the home defence on his way in on goal. 0-1
Thirteen minutes later Ammanford midfielder  Andy Robinson unleashed a powerful shot that sailed over the Ponty crossbar.
Ponty were coming back into the game and Ammanford’s goalkeeper Craig Morris was being forced into making some fine stops.
However things got worse for the home team as Ponty’s James Bloom picked up his second yellow card of the game after 77 minutes  and received his marching orders from the referee.
As Ponty reorganised, it was Ammanford who struck again in the 82nd minute when a weaving run from Andy Robinson resulted in his deflected strike beating the Ponty goalkeeper to double Ammanford’s lead.
Ammanford, with Ponty down to ten men and two nil up were content to see the game out, but deep into stoppage time Ponty’s striker Luke Gullick pulled  a consolation goal back after he met a cross to head home.
Ammanford weathered the final minute of the game and were jubilant at their latest away win.
