Match Preview: Pontardawe Town AFC vs. Ammanford AFC

Ammanford AFC make the trip over the Amman Valley to the neighbouring Swansea Valley this weekend as they make the short journey to Pontardawe to take on near neighbours Pontardawe Town AFC.

After a disappointing 1-0 reverse against Goytre United AFC last weekend, Gruff Harrison’s side will be looking to bounce back in the best way possible. With 3 of the top 4 losing, Town remain just three points off the top spot which is currently occupied by Llanelli Town AFC.

The Reds earned the top spot after a shock 3-2 victory for our opponents on Saturday away at the then-leaders Afan Lido. The hosts had raced into a 2 goal victory before late goals from Callum Sillcox, Joseph Lloyd and Joshua Dorward earned the Black and Whites a famous win.

Garry Taylor’s squad had a strong first season back at Tier 2 level last time out. They finished one place ahead of Ammanford in 9th place and five points clear of us. Taylor has assembled a young and exciting squad that has earned plaudits around the league for their brand of football and organisation.

A familiar face in the Ponty squad is Callum Silcox. The striker was in the Ammanford squad last year and made 14 league appearances, scoring twice in Town colours. Since making the switch to Ynysderw Park, he has continued his excellent form, scoring four times in eight appearances to date.

For Ammanford, Lewis Reed returns to the ground in which he shone. He scored 15 goals for Garry Taylor’s side in 27 outings.

The form book favours the home side in this fixture. The past six meetings has seen the side hosting take victory in Tier 2 and 3 since 2016. Last season, Ammanford won the first meeting 3-2 before Ponty took the bragging rights in the final game of the campaign by a 2-0 scoreline.

Daniel Richardson is the referee on Saturday afternoon. Lewys Evans and Mark Cockram will assist him.

Kick off at Parc Ynysderw is at 14:30. The postcode for the club is SA8 4EG. In a battle of the Black and White’s, we hope it’s the men from Carmarthenshire that come out on top
