Ammanford fell to a third successive defeat as Trefelin left Carmarthenshire with a late victory.

After Lewis Reed put the Black and Whites ahead with twenty minutes to go, Callum Saunders equalised for the high-flying visitors before former Ammanford marksman Lee Trundle returned to his old stomping ground to break Town hearts at the death.

Despite the excitement off the field reaching fever pitch due to the club’s annual ‘Her Game Too’ event, the match struggled to spark into life early on, aside from a succession of corners in the opening five minutes.

It took until the half-hour mark for the first meaningful opportunity. Adam John delivered a superb cross into the box, picking out Reed, but Town’s top scorer could only head narrowly over the bar.

That moment lifted both teams, leading to chances in quick succession. Trundle created Trefelin’s first opportunity minutes later, flashing a shot past the far post. Almost immediately, Matthew Fisher broke forward for the hosts but fired over from just inside the area.

The second half started in a similar manner to the first with the home side on top, but this time they carved out some clear openings. Reed saw a powerful drive palmed away by Alex Pennock before Seth Woodhouse intercepted the ball on the edge of the area and fired inches over the bar.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 70th minute. John’s cross was met perfectly by Reed at the near post, glancing the ball into the net for his fourth goal in as many games.

Up to that point, Trefelin had created little after the break, but they nearly found an immediate equaliser. A ball was flashed across the six-yard box, and had it not been for a crucial touch from Harri Lawson at the far post, the Reds would have been level.

They did not have to wait long. A ball was played back into the Ammanford area and a ricochet on the edge of the area sent the ball straight into the path of Saunders, who had the simple task of poking home from close range.

With only three minutes remaining, Trefelin took the lead. A huge throw-in was launched into the box, and Trundle flicked the ball into the net.

Ammanford almost found a dramatic late equaliser. Fisher’s free-kick on the edge of the area was superbly saved by Pennock, securing three points for the visitors on a wet and windy spring evening.
