Ammanford continued their impressive start to the season with a hard-fought 1–0 win against Treowen Stars, maintaining their 100% record in Carmarthenshire.
Adam John’s effort 14 minutes from time was enough to win the contest and sees Town rise to third place in the JD Cymru South.
It was the visitors who began the brighter, nearly taking the lead in the opening exchanges. A free-kick was whipped into the Ammanford penalty area and knocked down at the far post to Craig McDonnell, but the centre-half couldn’t keep his effort down and it sailed over the bar.
After the early scare, the Black and Whites grew into the game and carved out several promising chances. Callum Thomas’ acrobatic attempt flew over the bar, while Dan John fashioned two opportunities for himself. First, he fired over following strong play down the right from his namesake, Adam John, and then saw a tame effort held by Cael Jones after some intricate build-up on the edge of the box.
Treowen suffered a setback midway through the first half when Jones picked up a nasty-looking injury. Despite the blow, Ammanford struggled to test the injured goalkeeper and the sides went in level at the break.
Wyn Thomas’ men remained on the front foot after the interval, though Dan John’s effort over the bar was the only real attempt on goal.
With the match meandering towards a second consecutive goalless draw, Ammanford finally found the breakthrough. Debutant Owain Davies played in Adam John, who curled a composed finish past substitute stopper Shaun Gardiner.
Trailing by a goal, Treowen pressed forward in search of an equaliser, which left space in behind. Ammanford nearly capitalised again, with Adam John’s free-kick well held by Gardiner.
In the closing stages, the hosts came under sustained pressure, but their backline stood firm to secure a third league clean sheet and another invaluable three points.
