Ammanford came away from the Cambrian coast with a point after being held to a goalless draw against Aberystwyth Town.
Despite creating several good chances, Town were denied by an inspired performance from 17-year-old Tomos Evans in goal for the Seasiders.
Ammanford started the brighter and fashioned two opportunities in the opening quarter of an hour. Captain Adam Orme fired wide from the edge of the area before Dan John broke free of the home defence but flashed his effort across the face of goal.
Goalkeeper Evans was forced into his first save of the match by Owain Davies. Some excellent build-up play found the former Bluebirds full-back unmarked but his shot was palmed away by the young keeper before the Black and Greens cleared the danger.
Aber’s only chance of the first half came from a corner. Richie Ricketts delivered a deep set piece which ricocheted around the penalty area, but the visiting defence coped well with the threat.
Before the break, Orme went close with a pair of headers. The first came from a Rhys Davies cross, and moments later Adam John delivered a pinpoint ball onto the skipper’s head, but it sailed agonisingly over the bar.
After the interval, Euros Griffiths went close with a back-post header, shortly before the home side’s penalty appeals were waved away. Striker Star Mayemba went down in the area, but the referee deemed it simulation and booked the forward.
Given the hot weather, a water break was sanctioned in each half. Following the scheduled pause, the Black and Whites emerged with renewed purpose. Adam John curled a free-kick that was brilliantly palmed away by Evans.
Wyn Thomas’ men were in the ascendancy and playing with confidence. The introduction of new signings Gavin Jones and Matt Delaney added fresh impetus to the Town attack, and both drew stunning saves from Evans between the sticks.
After the ball broke kindly for Jones inside the box, his initial shot was stopped, and the rebound was acrobatically tipped away by the young keeper to ensure his side earned a valuable point.
