Macsen Llewelyn’s 95th-minute goal was enough to earn Ammanford their first win in six weeks.
The Black and Whites had trailed until ten minutes from time, when Euros Griffiths and Llewelyn, both locals to Ammanford, converted delicious crosses from substitute Owain Davies to secure Town the three points.
Wyn Thomas made one change to his starting line-up after a two-week hiatus. Matthew Fisher came into the side, and it was he who came closest to breaking the deadlock in the opening exchanges. After picking the ball up in the Celtic half, he drove at the opposition defence and fired a shot which cannoned off the crossbar before falling to safety.
Ammanford’s width was causing the visitors problems, and they carved out chances which fell to Chris Bell, Griffiths, and Adam John, but the scores remained level going into the break.
Despite suffering a horror journey to Carmarthenshire, which saw kick-off delayed by 15 minutes, Cwmbran Celtic started the second half well and took the lead just before the hour mark.
Cole Doolan cut inside from the left wing and curled a shot perfectly into the bottom corner to give the Blue and Yellows the advantage.
Prompted by going behind, Town changed shape and made a quadruple substitution, but it was the visitors who came closest to increasing their lead.
After the ball made its way into the penalty area, Luke Martin produced a superb point-blank save to keep the deficit to one.
Ammanford were in need of a spark of magic, and that came with ten minutes to go. Owain Davies’ free-kick was met by the head of Griffiths who, as he’s done so often over his glittering Ammanford career, found the back of the net.
The lifeline galvanised the hosts, and they pushed in the latter stages of the game for a winner. Callum Thomas drove through the defence and forced Iwan Hooper into a smart save, before Gavin Jones fired into the side netting from a tight angle.
But as the fog began to flood into the Recreation Ground, Town found their winner. In the dying embers of the contest, Davies’ free-kick was met by Griffiths again. This time, his effort was stopped, but Llewelyn was on hand to put the rebound away to score his first of the season and earn Ammanford a vital victory to keep up the pressure at the upper echelons of the table.
