Ammanford returned from a scrappy encounter at the Newport Stadium with a very hard earned point against a team tipped by many as contenders for a top  three finish in the Cymru South this season.

A cagey start to the game saw both teams struggle to create a clearcut chance.

Callum Thomas worked hard to create an opening for himself  on the quarter of an hour mark but shot wide from the edge of the area.

In the 35th minute an excellent long pass from defence by Baba found Gavin Jones who controlled well and homed in on goal before firing high and wide of the far post.

A couple of minutes later a low free kick from Owain Davies forced a save from Newport City keeper Ed King.

An organised defensive performance from Ammanford restricted Newport to half chances during the first half.

Newport City came out second half clearly determined to stamp their authority on the game but the excellent Ammanford defence again restricted them to half chances and set pieces, Euros Griffiths and Chris Bell dealing well with the aerial threat posed by the home team.

Ammanford were struggling to create any clearcut chances of their own but in the 79th minute home keeper King flapped at an Adam John free kick, frustratingly nobody was able to take advantage.

Five minutes from time Ammanford keeper Luke Martin saved well low to his right to prevent an own goal.

As the clock ticked down substitute Dan John forced a save from King and during six minutes of injury time it was  Ammanford who were looking the more likely to score but frustratingly for the away support were unable to find the net and had to settle for what was in the grand scheme of things a very good away point.
