Match Preview: Ammanford AFC vs Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC

Ammanford take part in their fourth competition this calendar month as the last 16 of the Nathaniel MG Cup rolls into Carmarthenshire.

Briton Ferry Llansawel are the visitors to the recreation ground as Town look to match last year’s achievement by reaching the last 8 of the competition.

So far, Gruff Harrison’s side have dispatched Abertillery Bluebirds and Trefelin in the previous rounds. With both of our previous adversaries residing in the bottom half of the table, this tie marks a step up in opposition as the JD Cymru South second place side make the short trip eastwards.

The Reds have had a very positive start to the campaign and are widely tipped to lift the trophy come the end of the season. They have won five and lost only once which, like ourselves, came away at league leaders Afan Lido. To get to the Quarter-finals, they have dispatched Abergavenny and Llantwit Major in Rounds One and Two.

There are many familiar faces in Llansawel’s lineup. Legendary marksman Luke Bowen leads the Reds’ line alongside league winners Josh Bull and Thomas Walters. Elsewheronin the side, Tyler Brock has Cymru Premier experience with Carmarthen Town.

For the hosts, Morgan Clarke is suspended after being shown two yellow cards against Trefelin. Aside from that, Harrison has a full squad at his disposal although he hinted heavily on Friday night following our penalty shootout victory against Taffs Well that he’d shuffle his pack for this game.

It’s a familiar face with the whistle tomorrow night as Ben Williams takes charge of his second Ammanford fixture of the term after being the man in the middle away at Taffs Well in the WBS League Cup on September 1st. He’ll be assisted by James Sheils and Cilan Thomas. Tegid Richards will be the man tasked with officiating the benches.

Kick-off tomorrow evening is at 7:30. As ever, we’d like to show our gratitude to Penybanc Car Hire for their Match ball sponsorship and DJ Davies Fuels for their Match sponsorship. Entry prices are £5 for adults and £4 for concessions. Ammanford are within 90 minutes of another famous quarter final appearance! You’d be mad to miss it!
