Match Preview: Ammanford AFC vs Goytre United

Ammanford take to the Rec for the third time in the space of a week tomorrow evening as JD Cymru South action returns to Carmarthenshire after a brief hiatus for various cup competitions.

Following a penalty shooutout victory against Taffs Well in the Welsh Cup last Friday, the Black and Whites exited the Nathanial MG Cup after a narrow 1-0 defeat against Briton Ferry Llansawel on Tuesday.

Although we have bowed out of the competition, the performance of the much-changed side will be a source of immense pride to the management and squad with only a penalty from Luke Bowen separating the two sides.

Ammanford have a fantastic home record in the league this season and have yet to drop a point at the Recreation Ground. After an excellent 3-1 victory against Cambrian and Clydach a fortnight ago, we sit in fourth place just one point behind league leaders Afan Lido.

Our opposition tomorrow evening are in a transition phase and after losing to local rivals Trefelin in the Welsh Cup, well-respected manager Karl Lewis resigned from his post having kept them up after they suffered a disastrous start to the 2021/22 season. The men from Glenhafod Park are on the search of a new man in the dugout as they look to kick on from the strong work made over the last twelve months by Lewis and his coaching team.

United travel westwards in 10th place in the league with 6 points from a possible 18 having registered wins against Taffs Well and Abertillery Bluebirds. A familiar man in the Goytre United squad is Gavin Jones. The ex-Ammanford marksman has recently returned from a stint in Australia. United did the double on Ammanford last term with a 3-2 victory at the Rec nearly a year to the date of tomorrow night’s game followed by a confident 5-0 showing at home to round off the campaign.

JD Cymru Premier League referee Alex McInch is the man in charge of the action tomorrow evening. Ian David Bird and Vasilica Valentin Cuiplea will ably assist him.

Our match ball sponsors are Penybanc Car Hire and our Match Sponsors are DJ Davies Fuels. Printed programmes will be available on the gate for £2.
