The evergreen Matthew Fisher has committed his future to Ammanford AFC for yet another season.

The versatile attacker has been a prominent member of the playing squad for numerous campaigns. With nearly 400 appearances to his name, he has scored 128 goals including a memorable hat-trick against Afan Lido in 2023 and a superb curling effort away at Goytre United to close out last season.

The name Fisher is synonymous with the club. His father, Phil, once played for the Black and Whites, and his brother, Rhys, captained the side for several years under the reign of Gruff Harrison. Matthew is ensuring that this well-respected family name continues to be proudly associated with the club for at least another year.

Fisher told us: “There was never a thought in my mind about leaving. As soon as I got the phone call from Wyn asking me to stay on, that was that. It was an easy decision to make.”

Manager Wyn Thomas added: “Matthew Fisher’s experience is crucial in the dressing room. We’ve got a young squad, and his influence among those youngsters is very important. Not only that, he’s a great player with a fantastic eye for goal. He’s a superb man to have in the squad, and I’m chuffed he’s back.”
