Mathew Fisher will continue the family’s proud association with Ammanford AFC after committing to another year with his hometown club.
Fisher, whose dad Phil and brother Rhys have both represented the club, has signed a new deal as he continues to defy father time with his sharp, intelligent attacking play.
A proud Ammanford native, the 37 year old has been with the club since our days in the fourth tier. His most recent appearance marked a remarkable milestone: his 400th game in all competitions. He celebrated it in trademark fashion, scoring his 129th goal less than a minute after coming off the bench away at Treowen Stars.
A gifted all‑round sportsman, Fisher has also represented the town in both rugby and cricket. He currently splits his time between Pontarddulais Cricket Club in the summer and Ammanford AFC throughout the winter and evening fixtures. His experience, loyalty and enduring quality continue to make him a vital figure as Ammanford prepare for life in the Cymru Premier.
Reflecting on his decision to stay, Fisher said, “I’m really pleased to be signing on for another season.
“The opportunity to continue representing my hometown, this time in the top flight of Welsh football, was too good to turn down.
“It’s been a privilege to wear black and white for the last 20 years, and I look forward to adding to the 400 appearances I reached last season.
“I’ve no doubt it’s going to be a really tough challenge, but it’s one I’ll enjoy every minute alongside the players, staff and supporters.”
