Match Preview: Afan Lido vs Ammanford AFC

For the second time in a week, Ammanford are on their travels as they head to the Marstons Stadium in Port Talbot to take on Afan Lido in the JD Cymru South.

Saturday’s victory against Caerau Ely marked the third time in successive games that Town have claimed the bragging rights in the dying minutes of the game. Lewis Reed’s header and Mathew Fisher’s freekick ensured we kept our 100% record in the league this season with three wins from three outings.

But Friday evening should provide a stern test against Lido who like us, have a 100% record having defeated Abergavenny, Abertillery Bluebirds and Caerau Ely in the league to date in the 23/24 season. They also boast impressive wins against the high-flying Baglan Dragons and Europa League Qualifiers Penybont in the Nathanial MG Cup to put them into the last 8 of the competition.

One of the many things that have been impressive about the Reds this year has been their efforts in front of goal. The experienced Liam McCreesh has bagged 6 goals in all competitions in four games including a hattrick against Abertillery Bluebirds in the opening weekend of the term.

At the back, the signing of Exauce Dimonekene has solidified an already formidable backline. With a good mixture of youth and experience in the ranks, Lido will be looking to push onwards after an impressive season last campaign.

There will be a little bit of revenge on the line for the hosts as it was Ammanford defeated Lido 4-2 at the Rec in March last year following the conclusion of their incredible unbeaten record which stretched from October until March.

The man in the middle will be Ben Schofield and he’ll be assisted by Andrew Wilkins and Kevin Bungay.

Kick off tomorrow evening is set for 7:30 with admission set at £5 for adults and £3 for concessions. The postcode for the Marstons Stadium is SA12 6PE. At least one 100% record has to go. Let’s hope it’s not Ammanford’s!
