Ammanford AFC vs Cwmbran Celtic: Match Preview

League football returns to Ammanford for the first time in over a month tomorrow evening as Ammanford take on Cwmbran Celtic as the Recreation Ground.

This will be Town’s first home league outing since out thrilling 2-2 draw against Carmarthen at the beginning of October and our first soiree in the JD Cymru South since the scoreless draw away to Llantwit Major on October 21st. In the meantime, Ammanford have seen back to back fixtures against Baglan Dragons postponed due to the inclement weather as well as a JD Welsh Cup tie against Haverforwest County last weekend.

Tonight’s game is a welcome return to league action after the disappointment of a cup exit against top flight Haverfordwest County on Saturday. Depsite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the visit to the Ogi Bridge Meadow, with a strong first half showing proving the progress the club have made on the field this season.

Lewis Reed and Tristan Jenkins both went close at the end of the opening period but after the break, the Cymru Premier team were clinical and took their two best chances and secured passage into the 4th round of the cup.

Skipper Luke Harris returns tomorrow night after missing last weekend due to the yellow card accumulation law in the JD FAW Welsh Cup. The rest of squad came through unscathed and will be looking to earn a place in the expanded league game squad for the visit of Cwmbran Celtic tomorrow night.

The Celtic have enjoyed a very positive campaign to date and sit just one place below us in 6th place going into the fixture. They have won five games, drawn three and lost just three games throughout the term. Managed by James Kinsella since 2020, the Yellows have gone from strength to strength under his stewardship.

Should Ammanford want to get anything out of the game, they will have to keep Alex Bonthron quiet. The striker is the second highest scorer in the top flight with 9 goals in just 11 appearances to date.

The man in the middle is Joseph Gibson and he’ll be assisted by James Sheils and Vasilian Cuiplea.

As ever, a huge thank you to our match ball sponsors DJ Davies Fuels and our matchday sponsors Penybanc Car Hire.
