Match Report: Penrhiwceiber Rangers 1-1 Ammanford AFC

Ammanford concluded their away fixtures for the 2024/25 season with only their second draw of the campaign.

Adam John’s strike, fifteen minutes from time, earned a point after Penrhiwceiber had gone ahead from the penalty spot early in the second half.

Apart from Matthew Fisher’s inswinging corner that nearly caught the hosts off guard in the opening two minutes, there was little goalmouth action in the early stages.

Penrhiwceiber, who entered the match with one loss in their previous five, looked lively in attack but found it difficult to break down a back line led confidently by Euros Griffiths and Babucar Sauane.

Ammanford carved out two excellent opportunities in quick succession. John’s effort took a heavy deflection, skimming narrowly wide, before Lewis Reed’s long-range free-kick bounced awkwardly in front of goalkeeper Clint Forbers, who did well to tip it behind.

Before the interval, both teams were frustrated by referee Jack Stuckey after penalty claims at either end were waved away, leaving the scores level at the break.

There was no reprieve from the referee’s whistle a third time as the hosts were awarded a spot kick following a challenge on Harvey Hughes early in the second half. Warren Jones converted low into the corner despite Josh Hutchings going the right way.

Clear chances remained scarce, though Hughes went close to a second when he fired into the side netting from inside the box. For Town, Griffiths’ header which went wide from a corner was the only time they came close to troubling the opposition goal.

The Black and Whites found an equaliser with a little under a quarter of an hour to go. John floated a ball into the area from range which evaded everyone, including the home keeper, to find its home in the top corner.

Substitute Adam Orme almost snatched victory late on with a strike from the edge of the area. But despite plenty of effort from both teams, the contest ended all square, earning Wyn Thomas’ men a point for just the second time this season.
